Gian Lorenzo Bernini (1598–1680) was an important Italian sculptor, painter, and architect in connection with the success of the Baroque art style.
Born in Naples in 1598. He was seen as a child prodigy.

His father was a Mannerist sculptor and helped him. They worked together on several early commissions.
When Bernini moved to Rome he caught the attention of Pope Paul V, who was impressed with his talents.
Cardinal Scipione, was an avid art collector and patron of Caravaggio.
He was also a talented painter and successful architect, besides mastering marble.
