The flying buttresses of the apse of Notre Dame (14th century) reached 15 meters (50') from the wall to the counter-supports.
The King of France ordered the construction of the first major structure at Notre Dame sometime around 1163. The original structure was completed in 1250, under Louis IX (also known as St. Louis). He was responsible for adding the iconic twin towers, which were completed in 1250.
