Does Life Imitate Art or Art Imitate Life?

I’ll leave you to decide.

This image shows that art imitates life…

But before I have to say a thing or two.

Life is art. Art is life.

It’s kind of fun to think about it.

Sometimes art imitates life, sometimes life imitates art.

One is the mirror of the other? I think so.

Oscar Wilde wrote in his 1889 essay The Decay of Lying that, is about how art affects the way we look at the world around us.

Oscar Wilde affirms that what is found in life and nature is not what is really there, but is that which artists have taught people to find there, through art.

“Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life”.

Oscar Wilde, the Irish poet, and playwright was an advocate for the theory of anti-mimesis.

  • Art never expresses anything but itself.
  • All bad art comes from returning to Life and Nature and elevating them into ideals.
