The Art of Joseph Ducreux Became a Viral Meme.

“Don’t just go where you want to go, but run, jump and dance as you are going. That’s life. Enjoy every moment of life.”

A French painter.

Self-portrait, ca. 1791

Joseph, Baron Ducreux. 26 June 1735–24 July 1802, was a French noble, portrait painter, pastelist, miniaturist, and engraver.

He was a successful portraitist at the court of Louis XVI of France.

He was made a baron and first painter to the queen, and drew the last portrait ever made of Louis XVI before the king’s execution.

He was interested in the study of physiognomy.

What is Physiognomy? It’s to analyze a person’s character or personality from their outer appearance, especially the face.

Today it’s something a bit difficult task due to the pandemia face mask we use to go out and meet people in 2020.

But look at these drawing faces… wow, it’s a great illustration in a 19th-century book about physiognomy.
