Lines and curves are marks that cover a distance between two points.
A line has a width, direction, curve, and length.
There are many types of lines: thick, thin, horizontal, vertical, zigzag, diagonal, curly, curved, spiral, etc. and are often very expressive.
Lines are basic tools for me. I show lines more often than others artists.
How lines are used in art?
Line in an artwork can be used in many different ways.
It can be used to indicate shape, pattern, depth, distance, rhythm, form, structure, growth, movement and emotions.
We have a psychological response to different types of lines:
Curved lines indicate comfort and ease.
- Horizontal lines indicate distance and calm.
- Vertical lines indicate height and strength.
- Irregular lines give the impression of anxiety.
What are abstract lines in art?
Abstract art uses color, shape, form, and line to create compositions that exist independent of visual references in the world.
