The rest of the partially collapsed Miami Surfside condo has been demolished.

Demolition of the remaining structure at the Surfside building collapse site happened Sunday, July 4, 2021, at 10:30 pm.

124 people are still unaccounted for in the building collapse near Miami, Florida.

The condo building that collapsed, Champlain Towers South, partially collapsed at 1:30 am on June 24th in Surfside.

Search & rescue operations have been suspended until the remainder of the building is demolished.

Demolition is the science and engineering in safely and efficiently tearing down buildings and other structures.

Demolition is different from deconstruction, this involves taking a building apart while carefully preserving valuable elements for reuse purposes.

Large buildings, tall chimneys, bridges, and increasingly some smaller structures may be destroyed by building implosion using explosives.

Imploding a structure is very fast, the collapse itself only takes seconds.

And an expert can ensure that the structure falls into its own footprint, so as not to damage close structures.

The next step will be for the inspectors to make sure the first responders can come back safely to continue their services.

Things like this should never happen. It was preventable, I believe.

The cause can be a combination of many causes. And it takes months for experts to be certain about what happens there.

Thank you, friends
