It’s all about pixels and pixel art. Art, and color.

We often plough so much energy into the big picture, we forget the pixels. ~Silvia Cartwright.

In digital imaging, a pixel, or picture element is the smallest addressable element in a raster image or the smallest addressable element in an all points addressable display device; so it is the smallest controllable element of a picture represented on the screen. Wikipedia.

Digital imaging is the creation of a representation of the visual characteristics of an object.

Pixel art is a form of digital art, created through the use of software, where images are edited on the pixel level.

In most pixel art, the color palette used is limited in size, with some pixel art using only two colors.

Pixels are abbreviated as “px”.

They are also a unit of measurement commonly used in graphic and web design, equivalent to roughly 1⁄96 inch (0.26 mm).

This measurement is used to make sure an image will display as the same size no matter what screen resolution views it.

A megapixel (MP) is a million pixels.

It’s used not only for the number of pixels in an image but also to express the number of image sensor elements of digital cameras or the number of display elements of digital displays.

Pixel aspect ratio is a mathematical ratio that describes how the width of a pixel in a digital image compares to the height of that pixel.
