What does it mean for something to be “random”?
You have an intuitive idea of what randomness looks like, but can you be a bit more precise about your definition of what you would consider to be random?
It turns out there are multiple definitions for what’s random and what isn’t.
The “random” refers to the lack of pattern or predictability in an event or sequence of events.
In other words, a random event is one that occurs without any particular reason or purpose, and whose outcome cannot be reliably predicted.
Randomness is an important concept in fields such as mathematics, statistics, and computer science.
In these fields, randomness is often used to simulate or model complex systems or phenomena, or to generate random numbers for use in simulations, games, or cryptographic applications.
One of the critical characteristics of randomness is its unpredictability.
