Rare Jackson Pollock Painting Goes To Auction

One of American artist Jackson Pollock’s “drip” paintings most expensive works.
Jackson Pollock’s painting Number 31 from 1949 will be at the 20th Century Evening Sale on 12 May 2022 at Rockefeller Plaza.
The painting “Number 31” is expected to fetch more than $45 million after being in the same private collection for more than 20 years, according to the auction house.
“Number 31” has appeared in major Pollock shows.
- In 1967 the painting was shown at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
- In 1998 retrospective that ran both at MoMA, NYC, and at Tate Modern in London.
He mastered the “drip painting” process, in which he poured paint directly from a can onto a canvas set down horizontally on the floor, sometimes using a stick to push and blend pigments.
