The principles of unity, duality, polarity, equilibrium, and proportion form the basis of all sacred and secular geometric diagrams.
Sacred geometry reveals itself beautifully in flower structures through the Fibonacci sequence and the Golden Ratio, which is a ratio between two numbers that equals approximately 1.618.
The Fibonacci sequence is a series of numbers where each number is the sum of the two preceding ones. Starting with 0 and 1, it goes: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, and so on.
In mathematics, the Fibonacci sequence is a sequence in which each element is the sum of the two elements that precede it.
The sequence can be expressed mathematically as:
- Fn = Fn-1 + Fn-2
- F0 = 0, F1 = 1
This sequence appears frequently in nature, art, and architecture.
The ratio between consecutive Fibonacci numbers approaches the Golden Ratio (approximately 1.618), a fundamental proportion found throughout the natural world.
Flower petals often follow Fibonacci numbers (3, 5, 8, 13, 21) — like lilies with 3 petals, buttercups with 5, and delphiniums with 8.
