Testing the Waters in Coimbra

Or, testing the sidewalk in Coimbra.

I am in the historical area of the city.

Through the window comes the sound of fado…it’s a lamenting sound. It’s slow, it’s profound.

“Pela janela entra o som do fado.”

I just came back from a stroll along the river to check out the near train station.

I went to the train station to walk and see if it’s possible for me to roll my bag on the sidewalk made of stones. I’ll do it this way next Saturday…it’s only 2 minutes walk as Google Maps said.

Yesterday I had a lot of fun walking around and taking pictures of the old buildings.

I literally got lost in the historical area in a very narrow street…

A man close to me said: “Got lost?” I said: yes. So go through here you’ll get to the “Se Velha”…I got back to one familiar street.

What I first notice here is that people need a clothing dryer machine. I saw many clothes hanging outside the facades of the buildings.

Another thing is that you have to be physically prepared for the city. There are many stairs and ramps.
