The Art of Limiting Time, Not Work
Managing Time vs Managing Work
The work on any important project is endless and infinite.
In pursuing meaningful work, we face a fundamental truth: significant projects are inherently boundless.
Like an artist who could eternally refine their masterpiece or a writer who could endlessly polish their prose, there is always more to do, more to improve, more to create.
When I make one painting, I immediately think about the next one.
The work expands to fill whatever space we give it, stretching toward an ever-receding horizon of perfection.
This limitless nature of meaningful work presents both an opportunity and a trap.
The opportunity lies in the continuous potential for growth, learning, and improvement.
The trap manifests in the seductive belief that if we just work a little longer, and push a little harder, we’ll finally reach completion.
But completion, in its absolute sense, is an illusion.
