The Art Nouveau movement of architecture and design thrived in Paris from about 1895 to 1914.

The hippie aesthetic of the 60th owes a lot to Art Nouveau.

Its high point at the 1900 Paris International Exposition.

Posters and magazine covers, advertisements, and illustrations were among the most popular forms of Art Nouveau in Paris.

They were made possible by the invention of color lithography in 1879, and further improvements which permitted more colors and mass production of better quality images.

The subjects of posters were almost always women, whose long, curling hair became a central element of the design, often combined with flowers and vegetal designs.
