A digital currency or a loyalty program…

The villa of Cascais, Portugal soon will have a digital currency to promote the circular economy.

Cashcais is the name of the project that the “Câmara de Cascais” will launch soon. This currency will be put into circulation with a mobile application and aims to help the local economy.

It will be used mainly in the social and environmental sectors.

The municipality clarifies that through Cashcais the municipality intends to “dynamize the local economy in the municipality”.

How?

“Whenever you make purchases from participating partners, the user receives a cashback (return of a percentage)”.

With regard to the environmental and social areas, “good practices that help to reduce the ecological footprint and social disparities in the municipality will be rewarded in Cashcais”.

The Cashcais accumulated by the users may later be used in purchases from the participating partners.

Cashcais’ strategic vision is to be a currency for everything and everyone, establishing a circular economy in the municipality”.
