The term “digital empathy” has been used by many people over the years and in many different contexts.

“In a world where we risk losing warmth during the massive, accelerated shift to digital, we must not over-invest in transactions over meaningful engagement and experience. One powerful opportunity is to embrace the sixth “love language” in marketing and experience design, which I call digital empathy. It’s this idea of understanding that digital itself has with it a different way of communicating and understanding how others want to communicate and how they want to be engaged.” ~Brian Solis.

Essentially, it means that technologists, need to be aware of the impact of what you are building and to build in positive features that help people, rather than just building things that are neutral, or maybe even harmful.

“Digital Empathy is using the intersection of social media and technology for a positive, powerful, and measurable change in society. Digital Empathy is the process of using technology to bring awareness, empathy, and action to social issues.”

Digital Empathy is a process of using technology to create real-world change for the good of all.

What I mean by digital empathy is about being aware of the impact of your technology and building positive features that help people.
