Louis Comfort Tiffany (February 18, 1848 — January 17, 1933) was an American artist and designer who worked in the decorative arts and is best known for his work in stained glass.

He is the American artist most associated with the Art Nouveau and Aesthetic movements.

Tiffany designed stained glass windows and lamps, glass mosaics, ceramics, jewelry, and metalwork.

The Tiffany lamp

It’s a type of lamp with a glass shade designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany or colleagues that was made in his design studio.

The glass in the lampshades is put together with the copper foil technique, the classic technique for stained glass windows.

Tiffany lamps are considered part of the Art Nouveau movement.

He produced a considerable number of designs, from 1893 onwards.

Due to Tiffany’s dominant influence on the style, the term ‘Tiffany lamp’ or ‘Tiffany style lamp’ has been often used to refer to stained leaded glass lamps, even those not made by Louis Comfort Tiffany’s company.
