“Now my helmet’s on, you can’t tell me I’m not in space.” ~ Kool Keith.

The Isolator

Back in 1925, the European-American inventor Hugo Gernsback proposed a solution to combatting distractions.

He published his anti-distraction helmet invention known as The Isolator, which he claimed to eliminate 95% of background noises.

This image is from the July 1925 issue of the old magazine “Science and Invention”, which was edited by Hugo Gernsback, who later became famous as a pioneer in the field of science fiction.

This creepy-looking helmet called “The Isolator” was invented to cut down audio and visual distractions.

Because distractions are all around us, whether it’s ambient noise or the colorful items around us. It’s sometimes extremely difficult to concentrate on the task you need to finish.

He invented this device which in my opinion he took an excessively narrow approach to solve a problem.

The “Isolator” is designed to help focus the mind when reading or writing, by eliminating all outside noise but also by allowing just one line of text to be seen at a time through a horizontal slit.

And, how would he know that his place, was on fire?

What if he dropped his pencil? or Wants to drink some water?

Even if all goes well, reading or writing usually involves going back to re-read a paragraph or cross-check a reference.

How would he do that?

“Do you know, why I really love my helmet that much? Because it makes me 15 centimeters taller!” ~ Alain Prost.

What is the isolator mask?

The Isolator is a bizarre helmet invented that was used to help increase focus and concentration by rendering users deaf, piping them full of oxygen, and limiting their vision to a tiny horizontal slit.

Maybe you need an Isolator if you live above a bar, or…
