The first call from a mobile phone was made on April 3rd, 1973 by Martin Cooper, a senior engineer at Motorola and the inventor of the first handheld mobile phone.
It seems like mobile phones have been around forever.
But the First Mobile Phone Call Was Made in 1973.
The significance of this moment changed the world forever.
People could stay in touch wherever they were.
It took decades to perfect the technology, and there are still improvements being made today.
We’ve come a long way since then.
The mobile phone, or cell phone as it is more commonly known, has become an indispensable part of our modern lives.
Today’s phones are capable of much more than just making and receiving calls. They can take photos and videos, play games, surf the web and even tell us where we’re going when we’re traveling in an unfamiliar place.
But how did we get here?
Up until 1973, if you wanted to make a phone call while out on the town, you had to go to a payphone booth or find another type of landline phone at a public place like a store or restaurant.
Then in April of 1973, eng Martin Cooper made the first-ever mobile phone call using a device he helped create for Motorola called the DynaTAC (or simply “the brick”).
The call was made from Sixth Avenue in New York City to Cooper’s rival at AT&T bell labs — Joel Engel.
The phone weighed almost two pounds. The battery life was 30 minutes, and each charge took 10 hours to complete.
