Pierre-Auguste Renoir (25 February 1841–3 December 1919), was a French artist who was a leading painter in the development of the Impressionist style.
Pierre-Auguste Renoir was born in Limoges, Haute-Vienne, France.
His father, Léonard Renoir, was a tailor of modest means, so in 1844, Renoir’s family moved to Paris in search of more favorable prospects.
They lived on rue d’Argenteuil in central Paris, a great place for Renoir to live…in proximity to the Louvre.
Pierre-Auguste Renoir was not only a leading figure in 19th-century art, but he also had a central role in the Impressionist movement.
In his artworks he was celebrating beauty and especially the feminine sensuality.
It has been said that “Renoir is the final representative of a tradition which runs directly from Rubens to Watteau.”
