Word of the Day: Queque, What Is It?
Inspiration from a Portugal coffee place.
A Padaria Portuguese gave me the inspiration. Queque was a word that I never heard of. I thought it was a fun and different name for many of us.
From English cake, from Middle English cake, from Old Norse kaka (“cake”), from Proto-Germanic *kakǭ (“cake”), from Proto-Indo-European *gog- (“ball-shaped object”).
Queque is a very simple cupcake and is often used as a snack.
The name “cupcake” derives from the word “cake”, which means cake in English, this is similar to the so-called American cupcake.
In Portugal, any individual small cake can be called a Queque or a cupcake, so there is a huge variety, both sweet and savory.
In Brazil, it is also known as "bolinho" or English cake and is easily found in bakeries, supermarkets, and other stores.
